Thanks, michael, willem, dangur for your comments. Although IE is an embeded part of MS windows. Internet Explorer is a browser that is so full of holes in that no matter how many patches updates they use to plug it, won't make it secure enough, IMHO.

If you want use a fishing net use IE it has more holes than I can count.

Although I use firefox from time to time. And yes I've update mine. My prefered browser that I mainly use is the maxthon browser v1.5.2 (build 21) it has a lot of built-in security and customized features that are configurable to your own taste.

I've used it without any problems at all, it's the best browser that I have used in comparison to others that I've tried.

Even though Opera may only hold 2% of the browser market...it is by far the most secure browser I have seen yet

The new improvements in Opera 9 Beta with it's use of widgets and advanced search engines that are user definable, make it a valuable tool that will likely benefit alot of users.

I have tried Firefox too and agree that it's pretty good, but so far i have to say that (for me) Opera has probably been better...before judging it too soon ...maybe you should try it.

Regards
Danny

Dangur's right about Opera 9. It is very nice. Very compliant, even with the most strigent of tests (Acid 2.0) and such.

But each time I've used Opera over the years (starting very early on) I would set it aside. I can't really put my finger on the reasons - but it just doesn't satisfy. Weird, I know. So for now I use Firefox 1.5.0.2 with a few extensions and I'm happy. But I still always have the latest version of Opera installed - I just don't use it.

@ Thanks brian-uk, - cheers

dangur,

Let me take this opportunity just to point out - that I have tested Opera v8.54/9.0beta, Advent v10.2.051 browsers some time ago also. They have a friendly UI and some nice features which a very handy in deed.

However, The main reason what swung my desision toward maxthon was it's ability to block various website that are infected with useless floating ads, banners, pop-ups, etc. And it surely does an effective job too. The tabbed pages are easily accessible at the top, and it's quick too. All of these and more are built-in into maxthon.

One more thing, I know that works quite well on maxthon it has the ability to remember all tabbed viewed web pages that you have visited. If for example if you suddenly have a system failure ie crash or a loss of power it will reload those pages for you automatically on reboot as you restart and open maxthon browser.

I don't mean to say that other browsers are any less important but everyone have their own opinions on what they like and use on a daily basis. Problem free browsing and usability is what it's all about.

As you can see in the picture "ALL" of my Web AD's/Float AD's/Pop-up/ etc Blockers are active.

I havent tried maxthon so i cant offer a frame of reference...is it free?

From your description it seems to have alot of the same features that Opera has...even to the point of duplicate.

Opera is also customisable for the mobile interface and has a WAP browser as well. they have done an incredible job of improving the product and are the fastest at creating fixes and patches...thats for sure....only drama i have with them is they dont seem to be able to open the sites that have been tailored to IE as easily as firefox does.

With the recent serious security flaw in Firefox...I dont think I'll be convinced yet to make it my browser of choice

I'm curious....do you use it for accessing this forum?

Because i have found so far that only IE and Firefox tend to work best in this forum.

More news -

The Mozilla Corporation plans to rush out a minor update to Firefox, numbered 1.5.0.3, in order to address a denial-of-service vulnerability in the most recent version of the open source Web browser. The move comes despite the flaw being rated "non-critical" by security firm Secunia.

The security issue involves an error in the handling of unexpected "contentWindow.focus()" JavaScript calls. A malicious Web site could be used to "corrupt the memory and cause a crash by calling the "contentWindow.focus()" method on a container with specially crafted content," according to it latest info.

Exploit code for the vulnerability has been released, prompting Firefox developers to quickly patch the browser -- even though the risk of attack is minimal. The decision will, however, slightly push back the next Firefox update.

"What was previously called 1.8.0.3 will shift to 1.8.0.4. 1.8.0.4 will ship on a schedule slightly offset from the original 1.8.0.3 schedule to accommodate the new release in the middle," on Thursday.

"The new 1.8.0.3 release is happening off of a mini-branch from 1.8.0.2 so no action is required to back out patches or stop landing patches for the next release."

The DoS problem affects the latest Firefox 1.5.0.2 build, which was released earlier this month to correct a slew of security-related flaws.
